sustainability

Summit Coffee is part of a long chain of hands that starts with the farmer and ends with a cup of coffee in the consumer’s hands. As such, we strive to make responsible, creative, and sustainable decisions within every realm of the business.

COMMUNITY

1% for the community

For 20+ years, Summit Coffee has implemented myriad campaigns benefitting foundations in our immediate communities and beyond. While direct donation of funds has always been an unwritten practice, we made it official in 2021. 1% of annual pre-tax gross revenue is put directly toward community engagement efforts.

employee engagement

Each member of the Summit Coffee team is awarded a baseline of 1 paid day off per year to be used for a day of volunteering with the opportunity to apply for more than 1 day. Additionally, our community outreach team curates a calendar of service opportunities each month for our staff with opportunities in a variety of areas from environmental conservation to LGBTQ+ outreach to low income/disadvantaged community support.

  • For Summit, great coffee begins with great relationships. We source more than half of our coffee from existing relationships, investing in the people and coffee we’ve worked with since opening our roastery in 2015.

  • Along with serving great coffee, Summit has a number of sustainability initiatives at our cafes and roastery. From “bring your own mug” discounts, to composting and recycling, waste and energy audits and tracking, green design choices, and energy and water efficient equipment, Summit is constantly looking to promote sustainability from an operational perspective.

  • We hold all of our suppliers accountable to ethical, social, employment, and environmental standards as outlined by our Supply Chain Code of Conduct. And along with our Responsible Sourcing commitment, we engage with our coffee farmers and co-op partners to collect data and information, and find ways to help promote their sustainability programs.
